WHAT IS A THERAPY SESSION LIKE?

Each therapy session is unique and tailored to your specific desires for growth.

In the first session, I will guide you through a review of your history, a discussion on present concerns/challenges and an exploration of your specific desires for change. Together, we will come up with short and long term goals, which form the foundation for our work together in coming weeks.

It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts around forty-five minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth.

For therapy to be most effective, you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions. There may be times when you are asked to take specific actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as practicing a new relaxation technique or taking notice of a certain behavior.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY THERAPIST?

Although each session is unique, here are some things that you can expect in every session with me:

  • A safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment to express your feelings

  • Real strategies for enacting positive change

  • Effective and proven techniques, along with practical guidance

Psychotherapy services may be covered in full or in part by your insurance. Please check your coverage carefully. When you call your insurance company, you may find it helpful to ask the following questions:

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • What forms are needed in order to obtain reimbursement?
